I found in the process of doing this exercise, that listening back to the sample 'out of context' at another time made me hear more. I think when you're looking at the scene, maybe your ears go into auto because of the visual clues. Your eyes tell your brain what you expect to hear, or something like that.
... visual CUES and clues!
